He grew a deeper understanding of Filipino food and culture while living with his father in the Philippines during his childhood. That led him to start the pop-up dining series Twisted Filipino in 2013 in Chicago. He continued that work in Portland until he opened Magna Kusina, which highlights modern Filipino cuisine.
