{"id":7539,"date":"2024-09-09T22:34:03","date_gmt":"2024-09-09T22:34:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.southernsmoke.org\/?post_type=chef&#038;p=7539"},"modified":"2024-09-09T22:35:09","modified_gmt":"2024-09-09T22:35:09","slug":"camari-mick","status":"publish","type":"chef","link":"https:\/\/southernsmoke.org\/zh_tw\/chef\/camari-mick\/","title":{"rendered":"Camari Mick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camari Mick is the Executive Pastry Chef<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.musketroom.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Musket Room<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a Michelin-starred restaurant in Manhattan\u2019s Nolita neighborhood, and Executive Pastry Chef\/Partner at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.rafsnewyork.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Raf\u2019s<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a French &amp; Italian bakery, restaurant and all-day caf\u00e9 from the same owner.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Camari was a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/profile\/camari-mick\/?sh=df43c0b13f21\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for 2024, and made Eater\u2019s 2023 roster of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ny.eater.com\/2023\/10\/16\/23915680\/pastry-chefs-new-guard-nyc-dessert\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cNew York\u2019s New Guard of Pastry Chefs,\u201d<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> punctuating an incredible string of accolades and successes. In 2023, she received her third consecutive James Beard Award semi-finalist nod for Outstanding Pastry Chef, and she\u2019s been honored as one of Dine Diaspora\u2019s distinguished <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.blackwomeninfood.org\/awards\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Black Women in Food<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2018Culinarians.\u2019 With Camari leading the pastry team, Raf\u2019s and Musket Room have both received glowing New York Times reviews, with Musket Room receiving a nod as one of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2022\/dining\/best-restaurants-list-america.html\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best restaurants in America<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the same paper.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A dynamic rising star pastry talent and skilled baker, Mick joined the team in November of 2020, quickly melding her refined-yet-playful style with the restaurant\u2019s reliably indulgent menus. In the thick of the pandemic she spearheaded the launch of \u201cMR All-Day,\u201d The Musket Room\u2019s all-day cafe that operated out of a vintage 1962 Harvester truck parked out front. Her coveted sweets (including a miso toffee chocolate chip cookie and guava cream cheese donut) and freshly-baked breads drew lines down the block and helped keep the restaurant afloat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A community-minded leader, Mick regularly organizes groups of young chefs for collaborative projects, like a popular Black History Month provision box in 2022 that featured goods from top black chefs in NYC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As her pastry team grows, she leads with the compassion, patience and openness that she felt was missing in her previous fine dining experience. She aims to cultivate a learning environment and serve as an example for other black chefs who want to succeed in the industry.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prior to The Musket Room, Mick honed her pastry experience in some of NYC\u2019s finest kitchens including Thomas Keller\u2019s TAK Room, Le Bernardin and Daniel Boulud\u2019s db Bistro Moderne, including a two-month stage at Eleven Madison Park.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">By her own account, she got into pastry out of necessity. Her dad is Jamaican and her Mom is from Brooklyn, and while they\u2019re both great cooks, their talents did not include baking. Since she always wanted something sweet after dinner growing up, she begged her mom to start baking with her and became hooked.
