{"id":8181,"date":"2025-04-22T20:57:56","date_gmt":"2025-04-22T20:57:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/southernsmoke.org\/?post_type=people&#038;p=8181"},"modified":"2025-04-22T20:58:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-22T20:58:25","slug":"sarah-grueneberg","status":"publish","type":"people","link":"https:\/\/southernsmoke.org\/zh_tw\/people\/sarah-grueneberg\/","title":{"rendered":"\u838e\u62c9\u2027\u683c\u9b6f\u5167\u4f2f\u683c"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sarah Grueneberg is the James Beard Foundation Award-winning chef\/partner of Monteverde Restaurant &amp; Pastificio in Chicago\u2019s West Loop and author of <em>Listen To Your Vegetables<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Since her childhood cooking with her grandparents on their ranch in Victoria, Texas, Houston born-and-raised Grueneberg knew she was destined to work in the culinary world.<\/p>\n<p>After graduating from culinary school in 2001, she started her first career-changing job with a position at the iconic Brennan\u2019s of Houston and by 2003 was named the restaurant\u2019s youngest female sous chef. Grueneberg\u2019s ongoing travels have taken her throughout Italy, Asia, Europe and the U.S., inspiring her culinary approach of \u201cfollowing the food\u201d and truly understanding \u201cthe dish\u201d by knowing the people and culture that created it.<\/p>\n<p>Grueneberg moved to Chicago in 2005 to join the team at the award-winning Spiaggia under the leadership of Tony Mantuano. Beginning as a line cook, she quickly rose the ranks to Chef di Cucina in 2008 and then Executive Chef in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Grueneberg opened Monteverde in November 2015 and in 2017, she received the James Beard Foundation Award for \u201cBest Chef: Great Lakes\u201d and was a semifinalist for \u201cOutstanding Chef\u201d in the 2019 &amp; 2020 awards.<\/p>\n<p>Monteverde has earned acclaimed reviews from various outlets, including being named <em>Chicago Magazine<\/em>\u2019s #1 Restaurant in the 50 Best Restaurants list of 2024. Monteverde earned a three-star review from <em>The Chicago Tribune<\/em> and in 2016, it was named one of <em>\u7f8e\u98df\u8207\u7f8e\u9152<\/em>\u2019s \u201cAmerica\u2019s Best Restaurants.\u201d Other accolades include a top 50 finalist position in <em>Bon Appetit<\/em>\u2019s \u201cBest New Restaurants,\u201d being named to <em>\u98df\u5ba2<\/em>\u2019s &#8220;21 Best New Restaurants in America,\u201d <em>GQ<\/em>\u2019s \u201c12 Best New Restaurants,\u201d <em>Eater Chicago<\/em>\u2019s &#8220;Restaurant of the Year,\u201d the \u201cWorth the Wait\u201d award in <em>Chicago Tribune<\/em> Dining Awards and named one of <em>Chicago Magazine<\/em>\u2019s \u201c15 Best New Restaurants.\u201d In 2017, Monteverde was named one of \u201cAmerica\u2019s 38 Essential Restaurants&#8221; by <em>\u98df\u5ba2<\/em> and then awarded \u201cRestaurant of the Year\u201d in the 2018 Jean Banchet Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Grueneberg has been a competitor and finalist on Bravo\u2019s \u201cTop Chef: Texas\u201d and Food Network\u2019s \u201cIron Chef Gauntlet\u201d and was featured in the Chicago episode of &#8220;Somebody Feed Phil.&#8221; She has also been named a \u201cRising Star Chef\u201d by <em>Chicago Social<\/em> magazine in 2009 and 2016 and <em>Eater Chicago<\/em>\u2019s \u201cChef of the Year\u201d in the 2011 Eater Awards.
